Is money the root of evil?
BoX
111, P
AS.Alli!NA, CAuFOUlV.
This question has been asked frequently
s~ce
many
heard
Mr.
Annstrong say
that
"money is not THE root of all. evil.
11
Some have very qui.ckly turned to I Timothy 6:10 and,
b~
careless reading, assumed something
t~s
text does not say at
all. If' you
~111
turn to this Scripture
in
your Bible and care–
fully study it, you will see where the error is made.
To a tart with, not1ce that the text read.s, ' 'For the
love of money is the root of all evil •..• " It says the "LOVE
orliioney,
11
not merely money
1
but the "love of money
1
11
is the root
of all
ev~l.
From this you can see thitiaperson with no money
could still commit this evil.
--
The pool' and the rich a.b.ke can
LOVE
money. Money
by
itself is not sin. It is the miBuse of money that is sin.
Money can be used for good as well as evil. ·
The second point which is not generally known or under–
stood concerns the expression rendered
1n
the
King
James Version
"the
root." If an .interlinear Greek-English text i.s consulted,
or some of the more accurate
t~a.n.slations,
you will find the
expression to be
11
a root .
11
So
11
love of money" 1S merely •a root
11
o~
all evil. This gives added
me~
to the thought. It-is a
root, not the onlf root of evil. There are other roots of evil
oeside~-rove
o money. The correct rendering of this passage
is,
11
For the
~e
oi' money 1s a root of' all evils . . . •
11
( Pan1n
Trans!it!"on) .
-
Now it should be plain that money 1s not the root of'
evil, but
11
the
LOVE
of money is a root o.f evil.
