That's what people were really worried about when they talked of
Mr. Mondale being a "hostage" of the special interests.
The
truth is that any Democratic nominee will end up aligned with and
indebted to almost exactly the same set of special interests.
That's not the issue. The question is: Will he have the testiĀ­
cular fortitude and the clear sense of his own values to stand up
to his allies when that's what needs doing?
In their convention in July, it is expected that Jesse Jackson will exert
considerable influence on the platform adopted by the Democrats.
His
"world view" is far more radical than most people realize. More on this in
the future.
