PASTOR GENERAL'S
REPORT
TO THE MINISTRY OF THE
WORLDWIDE CHURCH OF GOD
VOL. 8, NO. 16
PASADENA, CALIFORNIA
APRIL 18, 1986
Dear Ministers of Jesus Christ,
This will be the last issue of the •pastor General's Report• printed
before Passover.
Most all o.s. and Canadian and some international
ministers will receive it before then. The rest of · you will probably
receive it during Unleavened Bread.
As we take the Passover this year we need to keep in mind one very
important difference between the sacrifice of the Passover lamb as a
symbol of Jesus' death for the remission of sins, and the actual sacrifice
of our savior. The Passover lamb died at the designated time each year by
a. quick and merciful killing. Not so with the sacrifice of Christ. The
death of Jesus was preceded by a sleepless night, a betrayal, a trial,
mocking and ridicule, a horrible scourging and hours of crucifixion. We
should take note of Jesus' example, that the taking of the bread as a
symbol of Bis broken body precedes the taking of the wine as a symbol of
Bis shed blood. Jesus suffered great physical and emotional agony ending
in His death as a complete sacrifice, paying the full penalty of sin in
our stead. As we are told in Hebrews 5: 8-9, ·Though he were a Son, yet
learned he obedience by the things which he suffered1 and being made
perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey
him.• Let's partake of this Passover deeply appreciating the transcendent
purpose of Jesus' suffering and death in our place, that we might spend
eternity with Him in perfection!
I'm sure you all took careful note this past week of the reaction of
Europe to the American air strike against Libya. Wednesday, April 16, the
LOS ANGELES TIMES ran a front page headline, •u.s.-Europe Split Worse
Since Vietnam.•
Only Britain's Margaret Thatcher stood with the U.S.
decision. And, of course, she was strongly criticized by the opposition
in Britain's government, as well as by her own people. The Israeli
government, which said it had not been warned of the strike beforehand,
also stood in support of the U.S. action.
This whole incident has served to further alienate the u. S. and
Britain from the NATO alliance. We see Europe again taking the tolerant,
do-nothing appeasement position that permitted the gradual but sure rise
