aroused on each side of both issues. Strong feelings that have to
do with profoundly differing ideas about what it really means to
be British•••• Yet she is apparently quite unaware that these are
matters which the monarchy can only meddle with at that
institution's gravest peril. It is not Mrs. Thatcher who should
be warned not to take risks with the Commonwealth.
It is the
Queen who should be warned not to take risks with the Crown. God
save the Queen from her new friends.
Thus the Commonwealth, like the British Empire before it, appears
severely damaged with an im � act this time on the monarchy. It is
another indication of Ephraim s fading glory (Hosea 7:8-9, 13:3).
For the Record:
In the last "On the World Scene" column, page 22, the
first of the two paragraphs ("Charles •••King Tot") should have been
indented, as it was a quote from PEOPLE magazine. The last paragraph
represented my concluding commentary.
