The Tenth Commandment
Exodus 20:17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s
house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife,
nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor
his ox, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

“The Hebrew word translated “covet” is
chamad
(
חמד
) which is commonly translated
into English as “covet”, “lust”, and “strong desire.”
To covet is to wish, long for, set one’s heart on something that belongs to someone else
with great desire and eagerness.
One might ask: why was this commandment
not listed earlier instead of being the Tenth?
The explanation seems to be because it
connects with the first one with the others in
between. God is perfect and all that He does is
perfect and in exact order as are His Ten
Commandments.
