patterns among non-veteran males.
The same is not true for female veterans, whose suicide rates have not improved and
remain higher than women who are not veterans, according to the VA data.
Kemp says recent success in reaching veterans through social media offers hope that
more young people can be brought into therapy.
Online chat connections with veterans through the VA's suicide prevention office
(hotline number is 1-800-273-8255) have increased from several hundred in 2009 to
nearly 55,000 last year, VA data show. "If we can get them engaged in (mental health)
services, we can make a huge difference, and that's encouraging," she says.”
CIT for Youth Manual
“Approximately 13 percent of youth live with a serious mental illness. Only about 20
percent of these youth get the treatment they need. Instead, all too often they end up in
the juvenile justice system, where 70 percent of youth are living with one or more
psychiatric disorders. . . .”
There are many experts who recognize these problems. In one manner or another they
are trying to save them. It isn’t just on a national scale. This is a global problem. This
affects people in all walks of life.
“The resources which seems most critically in short supply on a global scale is human
intelligence. . . .” (
The Geography of INTELLECT by Nathaniel Weyl and Stefan
Passony P. 9).
However intelligence alone isn’t enough. It has to be properly used. Intelligence
misapplied, or lack of it, leads to destruction not only to the individual but to all of
civilization.
Notice carefully what Messrs. Weyl and Passonly continue to state in this regard:
“Needless to say, the presence of brain power is [in] a society is of little advantage IF IT
IS USED IMPROPERLY.
“A people which has the necessary mental resources, but which suffers from social
institutions that bestow leadership on the mediocre, the incompetent and the non-
rational, FACES DECAY AND DISINTERGRATION” (
