deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these BLESSINGS were
produced BY some superior wisdom and virtue of our own.
Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too
self-sufficient to feel THE NECESSITY of redeeming and
preserving grace, TOO PROUD TO PRAY TO THE GOD
WHO MADE US.”
To help everyone REMEMBER, on October 20, 1864, as the tragic Civil War neared its
termination, a visibly saddened Lincoln issued A THANKSGIVING DAY PROCLAMATION
in which he URGED his fellow-Amercans to
PROPERLY OBSERVE the soon-coming
Thanksgiving Day— As a DAY OF
THANKSGIVING
AND
PRAISE
TO
ALMIGHTY GOD the beneficent Creator and
Ruler of the Universe.
And I do FURTHER recommend to my fellow-
citizens afore-said that on that occasion they do
REVERENTLY HUMBLE themselves IN THE
DUST and from thence OFFER UP penitent and
fervent PRAYERS AND SUPPLICATIONS to
the GREAT DISPOSER OF EVENTS for a
return on the inestimable BLESSINGS OF
PEACE, UNION, AND HARMONY throughout
the land which it has pleased HIM to assign as A DWELLING PLACE for ourselves and for our
posterity throughout all generations.”
Though this Day, as established by an act of Congress, is still observed, it has become A FUN
DAY – without any real meaning. Further, since 2010, Satan the devil is using
GREED
to drive
the Big STORES to open on Thanksgiving Day instead of Black Friday as another step of losing
whatever meaning that is left of the Day.
