Personally,

Wbere
is
any

news
today?
Wbere is any future to be found in
nations developing nuclear weapons
wbich can erase all human, animal
and plant tife from tbe eartb?
Wbere is any hope to be found in
tbe wretchedness, ignorance, pov–
erty, squalor and filtb in which more
tban half tbe world's population
tives?
Wbere is any joyous anticipation
to be found in prosperous "bave"
nations where sources of drinking
water - tbe rivers and lakes - are
being polluted and 1he air we
breatbe is being befouled, tbe soil is
wom out and contaminated and tbe
foods are being robbed of nutrit.ion
in food faciOries; wbere bornes and ·
famities are being brnken up, crime
is rapidly increasing. racial problems
an<t violence are erupting. and sick–
ness and mental disturbances mul–

Where
is
happiness loday? Sixty
years ago, driving along country
rnads in lowa,
1
saw and bCjll'd farm–
ers plowing behind
teams
of horses,
singing bappily
as
they walked.
Today, tbe farmers ride tractors -
but where -did tbe singing and the
happiness go? Where do we ñnd en–
couraging reassurance for 1omorrow
on university campuses wbere the
leaders of tomorrow are consigning
morality to tbe limbo of
an
out–
moded
past,
wbere suicides are on
tbe increase, and where unproved
doctrines are being absorbed by im–
pressionable minds?
Where do we ñnd iospiration in
tbe assertions of world leaders and
the "great," warning us tbat we must
adjust to a future of growing prnb–
lems and dangers wbere tbere
are
NO SOLUTIONS?
Well, for tbose of tbc abovc prc–
vailing concepts, tbe future mus! in–
de~d
appear discouragingly bleak -
if tbey talce a look at it iostead of
kidding tbemselves iniO the assump–
tion tbat by ignoring

Tbere is a CAUSE for the state of
the world today. And there has to
be
a CAUSE that wiU produce tbe peace–
ful and bappy world lomorrow.
There had to be a ñrst cause for the
very existence of·matter, of life, of
forces and ener$)es.
But today, it is considered "in–
tellectual" 10 be willingly tGNOR4NT
of tbat.
I
have said that in tbc ñrst
two centuries of the so-called Chris–
tian era, it was popular
to
embrace
gnoslicism - meaning, "we know."
But today, it is popular to embrace
agnosticism - meaning. "we don't
know - we a.re ignoran!." Today,
ignorance is embraced and labeled
"knowledge."

true
cause of all of loday's
ills? ls it wise, intellectual and
knowledgeable lo be detiberalely ig–

and
truth?
Tbere are two
main
ways of life -
two basic principies - two funda–
mental pbilosophies. One is the way
of
orvmo,
the other of OllTTlNG.
One is LOVI!, lhe other LUST. One
• believes it
is
more blessed 10 give.
than to receive. The other insists that
acquiring. laking. accumulating. in
the way of competition, leads to
progress and haP.piness.
Tbe one way is God-cenlered, the
other is SELF-centered. Tbe one ac–
cepts the Golden Rule, the olher
says, "Do il lo otbers befÓre they do

you."
Tbe one is tbe way of the divine
nature; tbe other, the way of human
nature. Tbe one is the way of bumil–
ity; tbe otber, of vanity.
This world - all civitiution- this
world's society -
is
based bn tbe
hostilc, competitive, SELP-centered
way. It has produced every wail of
human woe.
It
is the ·way tbat now
threatens the extinction of humaoity.
This all means ¡me thing. Man,
imbued with human nature,
is
ut–
terly UNABLE to solve his problems.
He
can
only worsen problems and
create new ones. By the "knowl–
edge" aod efforts of man, this world
is
doomed and hopeless.
Is
tbere, then, nothing lo live for7
Is tbere no bope for the future? No1
within the knowledge, the skills and
abilities of
Ibis
world's great minds.
